4spd Clutch Pack - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

I went to the trans place today to see what was up with my auto. It flares between 2nd and 3rd. The guy said it was a clutch pack and the box would need to come out of the car and be completely overhauled. With a price tag of $1500, it's something I can't afford. He reackons its still got plenty of life left in it, it's just more of an annoyance than anything. Can a clutch pack be replaced without an overhaul?

I am seriously considering putting a manual in it. I know a wrecker who will supply the parts and box, if I give him the 4spd. Can someone post the complete conversion procedure and all the part required? I remember seeing it on here somewhere, but can't find it for the life of me.

I also have the problem of flaring between 2nd and 3rd. So I took it to ford and they told me the same thing (clutch pack).
I changed the transmission fluid last week and it seems to be better. It only flares once in the morning and thats it.
If it gets worse then I will consider changing the clutch pack myself. Shouldn't be to hard with the right workshop manual.

Could someone explain this flaring thing? Please i have a 4 speed auto so id like to know what it is in case it starts doing it. Thanks

Flaring is where the motor "revs" a little bit between gear changes. For example, shifting from 2nd to 3rd it will rev about 100-200rpm before going into 3rd.

I also have a 4spd and it also flares when shifting from 3rd to 4th, and in econ mode. In normal mode its fine.

Im just suspecting a faulty solenoid(i hope). I'm getting the car serviced tommorow so ill see if they can do a diagnostic on the ecu/trans.

Hmmmm this sounds similar to mine. I get flare in 1-2, 2-3rd gears a bit.. tho im pretty sure mine is the line pressure related coz when u throw it into power mode the slipping is minimized. I was told i needed a new S5 solenoid... so i hope its not my clutch packs...

i have this problem sometimes, in mornings, i race up my street, which is up hill, and when its changing between 2nd and 3rd, it reves, then kicks into gear and takes off. ?? lmao, mabe it just needs time to wake up abit. i have found to fix this abit, is to stop, chuck it in Nurteual, rev it, then put her in drive and take off.
