I'm new here and am very confused about a problem I'm having whith this car. I am mechanicaly inclined and have not been able to isolate this problem. The problem is when bringing the rpm's up slowly the engine begins to shutter and shake. But it idles fine. When stabing the throttle it revs nicely and smoothly. At idle when I put it in drive, it shudders and runs rough untill I gas it, then it smooths out. So far I have replaced the distributer, plug wires, adj. timeing several times (to check effects of advance or retard). Adjusted lifters and changed the oil. Disconected the vacume modulator from the tranny to no luck. Oh and kicked the tires (just because). I've had this car for about a month. Iwill be doing a comp. check and new plugs today or tomarrow. My latest guess is Vacume leak at intake/ carb rebuild. Any input whould be greatly appriciated. Thanks

holley carb? could be the power valve, or a simple vacume leak, also check ur plugs, shell makes them foul up with red sh1t.

Yes. Holly 2brl. what is the power valve? I did spray some agent around intake manifold perimiter and carb base. I noticed a little increase in idle but not a lot. The idle mixture screws have no effect what so ever. I'm looking for a carb rebuild kit. and after I adjusted the lifters I still have a rattle that comes and goes. So depending on the outcome of copression check (if good) I will do manifold gasket and lifters and carb rebuild. I will admit I am obsessed with getting to the bottom of this.

I talked to a carb shop and he thinks its the power valve also. I will take the carb to him and he will set me up with what I need. I will do lifters, intake gasket, plugs and carb this weekend...fingers crossed!
