79 Fairmont Futura

i need to know exactly what kind of parts i can put in my fairmont. i have a 351HO, that i CAN fit in, however... what kind of tranny should i use? can i use a T5, or a T65 with it? Ford Racing is no help, so i came here... i know i can always put a C6 with it, but i want to convert to a standard.
i also know that a fairmont is basically a mustang with an extended body. they both have a FOX chassis...

A T5 will bolt directly to a 351W. Be sure to get the 1987+ model because they have the 10.5" clutch bellhousing, where 1986 and older only use the 10".

my next question is... how hard would it be to install a clutch pedal into my car? (it came with a C4)

Re: 79 Fairmont Futura

Was the Fairmont ever available with a manual? If it wasn't, try a Mustang pedal assembly. If the Futura is truly a Fox chassis, the Mustang assembly should bolt right up. Also, check to ensure that you have a clutch cable opening on your firewall- it'll be 1-1.5", just left of your brake booster looking from the engine bay.

Re: 79 Fairmont Futura

How'd this ever turn out?

I had a 79 Futura once, and I miss it.

Re: 79 Fairmont Futura

These are great sleepers believe it or not they are actually 250lbs lighter than Mustangs. Lighter means faster. My suggestion is to visit foureyedpride.com lots of guys with futura sleepers to help guide you on that site. Look me up on that site I
go by 4barrldford and relatively new also. You got a great project going with lots of potential. Now you need a game plan (check off list to go by) and take your time. Do it right. take pictures I would love to see your project as it transpires.

Best of luck.
