9" Diff brace

Can you weld on a rear diff brace without disassembling the diff? i want to also fit a drain and fill kit. Any ideas? or has anyone got info on a sheetmetal housing? I just priced a competition engineering chome moly housing and its 1100 dollars.

Re: 9" Diff brace

I'd say you should take it out, james from sydney comp said when you weld on braces you need to counterbend the housing, that way when you weld on the brace and it shrinks back it should be close to straight again, as its hard to straighten the housing once its braced, he also said that the braces are not required 95% of the time, but I'd still fit one anyway, can't hurt.

Is this for a street car? If it is forget the brace unless you run a lot of hp and a violent drive train.

If you need a brace fitted it has to be done out of the car. It needs to be straightened first; put in a jig then braced and fully welded.
It is a fair bit of trouble but if you weld it in the car you'll find out what trouble really means.

Take it out and get a competant engineer with a jig to perform this task, this is four big HP cars usually drag cars.
You can get a big housing 9"[truck] and a small housing 9"which is another option ,my housing was'nt measuring up ,so I took it to a specialist when he fitted it to a jig -it was bent by 9mm ,which would have caused major problems if run?.
He's reckons its pretty common to see housings bent , he recommends a rib fitted if you are launching very hard with big HP/Torgue because they do bend

Re: 9" Diff brace

There's a mob in Perth called Left Nut Hot Rods (08 92091928). Unsure of the price, but they'll build you a strong, complete sheetmetal housing to suit your needs for around $400 I think. I know a guy who had them make him a housing with the tubes from a 28 spline borgie. He can use axles from an ED falcon with a 9 inch centre. Tricky.
Cheers!
