how do u determine the difference between a 9 inch diff and a 8 3/4 ...i was told that to tell a nine inch ( from the outside) u look from behind the car and the cover bolts should be on the other side but i also heard that this isnt a 100% way to check so how do i tell?

if it looks like it belongs under a truck, its a nine inch.

your right with the cover bolts, the 9" diff comes out from the front, the little BW's have a cover on the back.

Have to watch out for the diffs out of the F100s too. I read in Street machine years ago that they look almost the same as the normal nine inch but not too many of the parts are interchangeable. Just something else to be cautious of.
