I am posting for a buddy of mine. He has a 92 Ford Exporer "sport". It is a 5spd. He had the transmission rebuilt. me myself have never heard of any problems related to standard transmissions, but being a Ford...........ahh nevermind. ANYWAY........Here's the problem. He had it re-built and the guy said it needed a new "shifter"...in order to save money he said i'll wait. And then a month later, he couldn't shift the vehicle into any gear. Is this the so called "shifter" that went bad. Like i said, i thought standard transmissions lasted forever. I need to direct him into the right direction as far as getting his vehicle on the road again. Thanks !
could be as simple as a linkage that is obstructed. And yes the shifter could have gone bad, unlikely but it has happened. Happened in my Camaro....<--enough said there.
It's nicknamed the Ford Exploder for a good reason mate...tell him to sell it before it costs him even more.
And I do know what I'm talking about. We have one, biggest heap of shit I've ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on. Every gearbox shop I talk to reckons they chew through boxes like crazy, particularly the manuals. Ours is a 97 model auto and had 2 boxes replaced before we got it. It's not hit 250 000 km yet and is coming up due for another!
And that's before I start on the electrical issues, cost of parts, etc.
AFAIK these manuals don't use an external shifter linkage setup. I suggest the problem is most likely something to do with the shift forks inside the box, or the shifter itself.
DUDE...............don't know what Ford's problem is. But i'm sure Henry is ROLLING OVER IN HIS GRAVE AS WE SPEAK !!!!!!!! CAN NOT THIS CORPORATION FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE MECHANICAL DEVICE *LAST* ? WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM "FORD"?
