I was wondering if anyone could help me....I bought a 94 taurus wagon and about a couple weeks ago it started acting up. When I would come to a stop it's like the car goes out of gear and after a couple seconds it would jerk and then I could move on. Now sometimes this happens even when I have to slow way down. Is this a common problem with fords...I'm guessing it has something to do with the transmission but I am definatly no mechanic!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

I always hate to ask this question, but..... was the fluid level checked? When was the last time the transmission filter was changed?

The fluid is at the proper level. I wasn't aware there was a transmission filter. Where would one go about looking to find that? is it something that requires dropping the tranny to get to it? Thanks for your reply.

filter is inside the bottom pan on the trans. is the fluid red or brownish and smell burnt? try putting the trans in 1st gear with the lever and see if its any different at a stop.

I will try the lower gear thing and check the color of the fluid....Thanks!!! I will let you know what happens

Well I checked the fluid....it looks red and does not smell burnt. When I put it in the second D gear (PRND D 1) it does not do the "shifting out of gear" thing...
