'97 full size Ford transmission slipping - help?
I've been driving Grand Marquis's for many years now, and I've started my second 100K on my '97.
After taking care of the intake manifold (grrr), some front end work and a coupla window regulators it appears I'm ready to start on the transmission.
Under a heavy load last week (I figure around 1/2 - 3/4 ton - I've got cargo coils) it slipped pulling away from a light.
Now its' slurred a little, stuck a little, been a little dumb and slow to downshift, but as a long term full size Ford owner I've come to expect such things. But the slipping...
and I can feel the difference and occasionally a "little" slip now and then. I believe it is getting worse.
So the crux of the biscuit: how hard is it going to be to change this thing? I've grown up as a backyard mechanic, changed some turbo 350 GM trannys and a good number of smaller FWDs, and know some are a darnsite easier to change than others.
And many repairs have a trick or two to them, and maybe a specialty tool. Any advice?
