I have a 1999 Taurus with the 24v Duratec engine. The vehicle has been well taken care of since I bought it in 2000 with 16000 miles on it. It now has 64000 miles on it and has had no major problems at all besides normal maintenance i.e., brakes, tires. Today it just started not going into fourth gear when it is in overdrive. I tried manually switching between drive and overdrive and there is no change. The transmission is otherwise operating normal and shifting fine. The fluid is very clean and at the appropriate level. What can cause a sudden problem like this??? I appreciate any feedback and troubleshooting techniques you have.
Now today the O/D off light started flashing when the gear selector was in overdrive...never seen this dummy light in the life of the car. What can cause this gear to just stop working while others are working fine??? Does this sound like some sort of sensor issue or what???
