AU auto trans levels

With these items being sealed what is the correct method for checking and topping up. Mine leaked a fair bit when the tailshaft was taken out for further balancing now before i drive it i want to be sure the fluid level is correct.

as far as I know there is a plug on the right hand side of the box you have to get to it from underneath, remove plug if fluid runs out it is fine if not top up

Larko,
No chance of that. If you have the plug out with the motor running, what's gonna happen?

Check it in Park with the MOTOR OFF and transmission warm to the touch. If you check it cold you may lose fluid out of the hole. Level should be at bottom of filler hole.

cheers

Another cost-cutting exercise.

Ford hasnt used any auto trans dipsticks since the EF?(or was it EFII?), as they say these transmissions are "sealed" for life...

ive heard some cabbies retrofitted dipsticks to their ef/el so that they could check/top up the levels easily..

Maybe they should bring it back eh? i find it handy when duing my under bonnet check every couple of weeks to have a look at the color/level of the trans fluid...as this can help find any leaks etc early!

"sealed" for life.. but unfortunately not a long enough one!! Are the bands adjustable on those trans's?

i remember reading the original hodlen manuals for the VL say not to adjust the bands on them at all (just a fluid change). thats rubbish, band adjustments on them can make a huge difference, at least now with cars having 150-200k kms on them. i wonder if its the same for the fords?
