its most likely locked then, unless it was optioned when new, LSD came with IRS didnt it? if thats right, check for IRS, I could be wrong though

WTF? All AU run a 78 series Borg Warner. Std are live rear axle, XR and up-spec models have IRS. LSD is option on both, std on neither. No factory car will have a "locked" diff. Whine is probably from badly set-up gearset from either the factory or the dealer. Happens on many at about 60k.

Ah, It's happening on mine at the moment, started around 60k, I'm now close to 78k, real loud whine when cold.
