Hey Guys,
Just a quick question, how often do u guys change ur auto transmission fluid because in the manual it says "Does not require servicing unless it leaks". I reckon this is a load of shit. Just curious whether I should change the fluid or not?

I change the auto fluid and filter every 40 to 50k.I even change the power steering fluid and diff fluid at the same time. A power steer return filter is good to. If you keep the car for a long time its worth it. There is shit in these oils that do wear components and I believe it certainly makes a difference.

Depends how the car is used, I would say 50k for a taxi like vehicle, but most can go beyond 100k without need of a complete change.

Best to go by colour and smell, if its red and smells like trans fluid, its problably OK, if it is darkish and has a bit of a "burnt" smell, change it. Best to change it at 100k, just in case.

It's not just the fluid condition (my EF2 fairmont had its first tranny service at 100,000 km, and the fluid was OK).

Ford's standard tranny cooler has a copper core that falls to pieces and circulates into your transmission. It's generally better to pick this up sooner rather than later!!
