AUII_Forte

Hey Guys,

I have a 2000 AUII Forte. The dealer told me that it had an LSD when I bought the car and when both back wheels are off the gound the both spin in the same direction when turned. But when driving, it sometimes seems to behave like a single spinner, but at other times like an LSD. I have found the following numbers on the sticker on the diff:

It's a 3.08:1 ratio

Is it LSD or not?????

Does it have a metal sump guard? Is the car white?

I don't think it's got a sump guard, I will double check. It's not white, it's organza (goldy colour).

As far as I know An AUII Forte should come with 16" steel wheels and a 3.23 diff. The AUII excop and XR series have 3.45:1 LSD.

3.08 is odd for this model AU. It would be very highly geared. It sounds like its had a replacement second hand diff put in it from an earlier model EA-D.

Probably not a LSD from an AU they are all 3.45:1 but maybe a knackered old LSD from the way you describe it working.

I think it's a genuine AU diff. The WR series part numbers were not used until the AU as far as I'm aware. It has got steelies on it. It hardly spins the wheels when nailed, but the 3.08 ratio explains that! My EA was 3.23 and my EB was 3.27, both of which baged up the rears easily. It seems really wierd that someone spec'd it with an LSD but didn't bother with anything else! It doesn't even have cruise.

Hence my questions. It sounds like an ex cop car, with 3.08 LSD in a futura. I have given up on trying to decide what should have LSD and what should not, mainly due to a succession of AUII XR6 HP owners pissed off to find they have an open diff.
