Now i was wondering how many kms you guys have got out of ur 4spd autos before you have had to get work done to them eg. rebuilt
I have a 93 fairlane ghia and my auto made it to about 285000 b4 i had to get work done. I had the s5 solinoid replaced and it then lasted to now at 291 000 next week im havin the bands replaced along with the seals and gaskets ect. thats costing me 800-900bucks. just wondering have you guys have gone with your autos?

well I had my 3 speed die at around 220 000 k's...got a reco one put in for $1500. I was in tassie at the time. Then I get back to Vic only to find out that it wouold have cost me $600 here!!

Ah well.

Just out of interest..does anyone know what happened to my gearbox, I could change gears manually but when I left it in drive it was like nuetral??

i have done 360,000 on a 3spd, original except the torque convertor. we wont go into why that broke...

haha 40 odd thousand in a auto 4 speed ea...car lasted about another 60 thou then got written off...

285000 is alot of kilometer. I didn't think they lasted that long. I put a bigger cooler and flushed it so mine would last

so mine starting to die at 245k (never serviced) isnt a huge shock.

Mine somtimes will slip into neural at the lights then when you go to take off it will drop into drive. Also downshifting doesnt work unless you blip the throttle slightly. Also it will occasionaly go into limp home for 5sec.

Mine sounds more electronic than mechanical.

If you fit a trans cooler,service them and don't drive them like a manuel the Ford 4 speed auto will last the life of the car
