Having a bit of a problem with the auto trans in my '95 NF Fairlane Ghia. It seems to momentarily shift up a gear on the move. It occurs both under load and when cruising. A minor jump in revs is noticeable when cruising in D at around the 100-120km/h mark (when in D it jumps to N ). A little dit of rearward pressure on the gear selector lever seems to help prevent this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

have you moved the tbar back to third to see what gear you are in.sounds like the torque converter coming out of lockup to me at that speed.when you say it jumps from d to n are talking about the tbar?if the trans was going into neutral you would know it.worn rear trailing arm bushes can make the tbar move but you usually have to give it a sharp stab to make it do it.e-series cabs were shockers for it

Sounds like the Linkage between the T-bar and the box itself needs adjusting.

I had a similiar problem in an EF Ghia, on the drivers side of the Trans thers a switch or sensor for want of better word it got to hot and started causing a few problems it was an easy replacement fair few years back now so cant remember all the details.

Another idea, it may be the inhibitor switch. Put your car in 1st and steadily drive off and listen and see if it changes gear by itself into 2nd. Mine was doing this and was down changing into 2nd at 120km/h. You can always go to ford and ask one of their mechs to plug in the computer thingy and see if it throws any fault codes.

Thanks for all the advice. The actual selector lever doesn't move. It remains stationary whilst the selected gear display on the dash shows a changed gear. It also happens in all gears. I will get the linkage and the switch checked when I get back to Brisbane. Will keep progress posted. Cheers.
