OK looking at the book. Pin 42 - yellow Transmission Oil Temperature. Range 1.0 volt to 3.6 volt @ 20 degrees C.
Theoretically you could either install a switch to the manual to suit, or rig up a 3.6 volt feed line using a power converter from Dick Smiths which should fix the problem.
Let us know how it goes, dunno with mine as I never put the fans in yet :(
Thanks mate, yeah I thought we if could give it a voltage then it would turn off the fans, what do you mean by installing a switch to the manual - how would you do that.
Anyways im off the Dick Smith i let you know how I go.

I meant tapping a hole into the manual for a temp switch, something else I plan to do in the great nebulous future when I can afford to fix the car up properly

I bought a voltage regulator kit that you have to make up. I cant get it to work also with the yellow wire does that come from the Auto box (is it in the connector) or do I have to tap into the ECU wire.
Is it poss to get a regulator thats already made up to save the messing around.
thanks

I dunno about voltage regulators :/
Personally I'd just splice it into the wiring at the ECU end, easier to get to and more protected. Umm try Jaycar? They're supposed to be pretty good for this sort of thing I understand.

I don't think it should matter, especially with swapping to a smaller engine. Anyone out there familiar with the XF gearboxes?
Bell-housing or whatever it is may be an issue, u never know... (i think they were a hybrid EA design, different to XD-E?)

XE XF ran a few different manual boxes.. all interchange.. some need different componoents though.. borgwarner 5 speed, a T5 a single rail and the crappy old 3 speed..steer clear of the light duty borgwarner 5 speed,, its about a good a box as what came out in a 2.6 sigma..
I have converted my EL to manual, I have been envolved in three now and have encounted the same problems each time. When the manual box is in the thermos stay on constantly this is because the computer thinks the auto is over heating, changing the computer to manual would solve this however you loose performance and its pretty hard to find a Manual El computer in Wa. So does any one know a way to trick the ECU to thinking that the Auto box (which isnt there) is not overheating there fore stopping the thermos being on and even out the idle speed.
Any input would be appreciated.
thanks
why muck around pull out the tranny computer and buy a mnaul engine computer.. pay no more than about 175.. try these numbers. 02 9774 5184 or 02 9892 3948// they should be able to help.. remember EL computers start with 96da 12a650 ???.. EF stars with 94DA 12a650 ???.. they dont interchange
I have put in a 1650ohm resistor between the temp sensor wires on the auto wiring loom. This has stopped the fans, the cars idles fine and is running nicely. No need to spend $175 on a new computer. thanks
