auto, manual shift into 1st

Why aren't you supposed to manually shift into first from second? I did this without knowing i shouldn't and it clunked pretty badly...why does it do this?

Re: auto, manual shift into 1st

because first is so much lower than 2nd, the engine cant match revs like you do in a manual, so its like letting the clutch out quickly in a low gear.

you could try tapping the accelerator while you shift back to first to match the revs a bit better, kind of like you would heel-toe a manual, this should make the shift a bit better

Thants not the best idea....i tryed it in an AU and it just makes it clunk worse , it makes the whole car "buck" foward then heaps of engine braking when 1st engages...

If the engine is low comp it'll go into 1st and rev.
If it's high comp, the rear wheels will lock which is very dangerous.

It's best not to select 1st until about 30klms. Unless you want to go the with the foot to the floor you can select 1st earlier (higher speed).
