I was driving yesterdy with all of the windows down and noticed that when the car changes gears I can hear a small clicking type sound, the gear change is smooth and I can feel the click, just can hear it. Is this normal ? Should I be worried ?
My EA does this and it is causing some concern to me as well, I think it was got something to do with the solenoids. Mine had an S5 replaced not long ago, so i'm thinking another one is about to go on me as the car flares between 2 and 3.

EAII_fairmont >> what do you mean by flare?? is it just a little rev that happens when its changing from 2nd to 3rd. Cause mine does that, but from 3rd to 4th. And it only does it in econ mode, not normal....
Yeah it revs between the change. The S5 replacement improved it, but it's still annoying me. Mine does it all the time, if I give it a bit then back off before it hits 3rd it'll lock the back wheels for a split second while it changes, which really can't be good!!

I know what you mean.. I get like almost a small blow off of gas or something (so it sounds) usually when the trans knocks itself from 4th back to 3rd.. I'd say this would be similar to the clicking you're on about.. and as for a solution.. i've got no idea

If you haven't done it already, get a complete change of transmission fluid (not just the pan).
Will make a huge difference. Auto trans fluids are highly detergent and new stuff will dissolve most crap that is in there.
cheers

Jakobi,
That sounds like the exact same noise mine makes. I have it booked in for a tranny fluid change, the whole lot is being flushed with a new gasket and filter is only $153 here in WA. I am hoping that will stop the noise, if not well I will be spewing!! Jakobi, Is your Ford a 5.0L ?
This sounds stupid but is it a click or a tick? Mine tends to make a short single tick noise. but it happens on my mates Ea S Pack as well. My transmission was serviced under 6 months ago so I odn't know if its just a ford thing or what

It is a single sound that happens on the change down of gears only. For example I will be doing 40kmph and then if I put my foot down then as it changes down a gear I can hear the single tick type sound. I will let everyone know in a couple of weeks (when the service is done) if the new trans oil fixes the problem.
