G'day all,

The problem is with my Laser auto. It's a 4 speed electronic Mazda transmission. The main problem is very hard shifting, particularly into 2nd gear and when going from neutral/park to drive/reverse. Also the car idles very low/rough in drive or reverse, which may not be the transmission's fault. Otherwise it's a great box in terms of take-off and cruising rpm.

I'm thinking the line pressure may need adjusting? Fluid level is fine.

Any advice appreciated!

Sounds like a service/adjustment is required.

Could be a contender for the "large_trout 5 speed conversions"!

Yeah, definitely in line for a service. I was just hoping to sound like I know what I am on about when I explain the problem to the service guys.

I did consider a manual conversion too, until I remembered how nice auto is to drive in town. It's not a bad box either - 2250 rpm at 100 km/h in top, yet enough take off to easily spin the front wheels in the wet. I can't complain.
