Hello all, what are the differences between the 4 speed autos in standard Falcons, VCT XR6 and XR8 AUII's?Thanks for any replies,

As far as I know, the auto in AU XRs had adaptive shifting technology that originated in the EL GT auto ones. Thats what I think at least. I can be wrong but.

Thanks Faygun, I am actually interested in component differences like gear ratios or items that are upgraded to take the extra torque of the V8's or whether they are the same with no changes,

oh ok... :) sorry. I dont know much about the gear ratio differences b/w those gearboxes.

There is no difference and there is no parts to upgrade them. If you start abusing them u will blow an aluminium drum (it's where the clutches are). They are pretty good in standard form but no one to my knowledge makes any performance parts for them. U can buy heavy duty clutches but that's about it. If you know someone that can machine u a steel drum to replace the aluminium one then you will not have any problems with them even when you modify the engine.

Don't know about the AU, but in the EF/EL models, the 6 had a BTR 93 4spd, and the V8 had a BTR 97LE 4 spd. The V8 trans had a seperate trans computer, the I6 trans functions were controlled by the main ECU.

There are other subtle differences ie stall speed I6 2-2200rpm, the V8 is 2-2400rpm, shift points are slightly different between the 6 and the 8.

I think the guts is the same though.

The only difference is the V8 transmissions have a wider sun gear and a longer output shaft and extension housing.I think it was longer but it is a different length anyway..
