I appear to have some dramas with my EF XR8...Transmission wont engage into drive...this is only happening in the morning when its cold....reversing out of the driveway is not a drama, but when I put it in drive it just keep rolling backwards and then engages about ten seconds later...even then it still feels like its in neutral...I have checked the tranny fluid dipstick and the level is okay and then colour fine apart from what looks like small black carbon deposits in the fluid...I recently had problems with the tranny cooler but my dealer replaced it and did a transmission service...Any ideas????

well it looks like you answered all the questions i was goin to ask.

have you thought of taking it back to the dealer, and saying something about the transmission playing still??

Are you sure the fluid level is good? That's a perfect symptom of the fluid level being too low when cold, and as it heats up a little the fluid expands and then it starts to work.

BTW putting it in drive while it is still rolling backwards is a sure fire way to end the life of ur torque converter prematurely

BTW, I have now noticed another problem, the car idles rough and shudders when accelerating...the shudder disappears when I get to around 120 k/ph...any thoughts????

ohh geez, thats not good, sounds like aVN commodore i drove a few weeks ago.

Does the shudder happen in all gears?, or when you are giving it a bit and its high on the RPM?

mainly when i'm giving a but and rpm on the high side...have also noticed an unusual sound coming from the exhaust at the same time
