Yes, a Tiptronic would still not be like having a proper manual box of course, but if you wanted to fit one, I've been thinking that Ford's ESS system (as used in T-series cars) shouldn't be that hard to fit. I still have to find out for sure if you need to mod any internals of the gearbox (eg. valving etc.), but if not, all you'd need is the mode button on the gear-lever surround and the Momo steering wheel which has the gear change buttons built-in. If you want the proper display in your instrument cluster, then you'd have to put a T-series cluster in also. These things should just plug straight into the ECU
AFAIK. Then the only challenge would be to get someone to re-flash your ECU with the ESS programming. The most expensive bit of this would be the steering wheel I figure (depending if/what internal mods were needed to the auto box of course). It's something I intend to look into later as I like my auto too much for various reasons to want to swap it for a manual, but like you I'd like a little more 'manual' control.
