Question Auto Versus Manual Transmission

I personally have gone for the auto. What's your feelings?
I just got my GT-P back from it's 3000 klms service and the mechanic who did it complimented me on the choice of Auto. Stated it was the 1st auto GT he had driven, and would only get the auto now he had driven it.

Re: Auto Versus Manual Transmission

Well it's like choosing a colour,a very hard decision to make, I'd love a manual for the control over the car and the shere fun factor(when able to) but the Auto is so nice to jump in and relax and cruise,especially if in the city,at the moment I'd go manual,but if FPV release a 5 spd auto I'd go the Auto.

Slipping auto ?

Eightoftwelve;
Now you have done 3000k do you notice any differnce on cold start.
Here is the scenario, my auto from first purchase, cold idle was as normal running temp about 650. Now at 3500k cold idle just under 1000, and when taking off under low acceleration the gearbox seems to "slip" slightly and there is a increase in revs.
Any ideas.

Regards

Paul

i drove the 4 speed auto before deciding on the 5 speed manual.
i was unhappy with spread of ratios in the 4 speed..especially when planting the foot. i think the rumoured 6 speed auto would be a great addition.
we also have a 5 speed auto nissan patrol and believe me those extra ratios will make it a smoother ride.

Re: Auto Versus Manual Transmission

I am going to the FPV day in Bris tomorrow, there will be lots of both manual & auto GTs showing their stuff.

Will be able to make a better assessment after that.

I bought the manual because:-
a) I live in the bush so it is no harder to use.
b) When I bought it autos where not available
c) Thought it would have better resale
d) I just like manuals

Re: Auto Versus Manual Transmission

I have had an AU XR8 auto for the past 3.5 years...and for the last 3 years I wish I had of ordered a manual.

I will be ordering a GT with the cockaspanial box.

I like to really drive a car...not just steer it. theres a fair chance i wont chew through that brakes quite as quickly either. Two sets of discs (just just pads) in 80k is a bit harsh

Re: Auto Versus Manual Transmission

Auto= lazy/boring

Manuals have more control over the car, something i find safer particularly in the wet.
Manuals make the car sound/perform better- you can blip the throttle on downshifts, also better in racing situations.
Manuals are fun! I learned to drive manuals and simply couldnt own an auto, it's just no fun simply steering!

Apart from a new 6 speeder which will no doubt be definately the same as a gun steerer (probably quicker in fact) i wouldnt go an auto in the current falcons. Especially in a GT, which is a performance car and a manual suits that performance label ideal.

Re: Auto Versus Manual Transmission

the btr auto in my gt is awsome slap it in manual mode and one carnt tell if its a manual or a auto!!!
its shifts like an f1 race car. i love it power on power and its much quicker than an manual shift when it is selected in manual mode..
