AX4S parts in pan

I removed the trans pan on a 97 Taurus that I just bought. There was a nut laying in the bottom of the pan. Looks like it should be a locking nut for a stud that sticks out right in front of the filter. I think the stud is for some kind of adjustment but not sure what or how much torque it needs. Right now the stud is very loose. I would really appreciate any info on this.
