Best place to buy a 351C and trans in Vic?

I have a mate who wants to put one of these into his XF.
Where would be the best place to buy one?
He wants a manual gearbox as well.
If he gets a donor car cheap how will he know if the engine or box is any good as most arent in drivable condition? Are their different types of Clevo's in different model cars? Which would be preferable in his XF, it will be daily driven and most likely converted to straight gas in the future.

Are reco'd 351c engines still available from places such as repco or RPM or would he be better off buying a second handy with a 3 month warranty from a place such as just falcons on canterbury road in Vic's S.E suburbs. They will likely be able to fit the engine too.

Thanks for your time guys,
Dan

Or would he be better off buying a shitter engine in need of a rebuild and sending it to an engine builder to be worked on a little.
Maybe something like this
http://www.comeracing.com/f0406701.htm

This will give a 0-100km time of 4.84 and a 1/4 of 13.19s at 170km/hr and 260kw to play with. All for around $4000. COME racing isnt the cheapest either so cheaper packages could probably be had elsewhere too.

How would this type of combo go with LPG?

Thanks
Dan

Cheapest way would be to buy a wrecked V8 4sp donor car. Then he would be getting most the required parts.

Don't know the legalities about installing in to an XF in VIC though.

As far as i know he will need straight gas to keep it legal cos its an 85 model. But he will probably just run a petrol carby until he saves a bit of cash first or gets pulled over and defected., he needs an engine pronto as his car is not running.
What would a second hand clevo and box go for in decent condition?

Talk to Execjim - he had a 351 (a runner from memory) up for sale in melbourne. As for 4sp - there are 2 behind the clevo's. Single rail and top loader.

A mate is currently upgrading his GT from an Auto to single rail - and I think it's going to cost him $8-900 all up(clutch, flywheel, belhousing, reco'd gearbox, shifter).

The down side is that he is prepared to wait for the parts, whereas your mate sounds like he is in a hurry.

As for buying a wrecked car, if it was smashed increases the chances of a decent driveline over one that was sitting for a very long time.

I'm pretty sure it will fit. I've seen an XC diff (ZH Fairlane) go into an XD ute with no dramas.

XC to XF might cause problems as XF's don't have leaf springs on the rear as XC/XD's do.

Re: Best place to buy a 351C and trans in Vic?

that price of $4000 was for them to build motor by the time u buy a carb manifold super sump plus u will probably need a electric fuel pump plus more parts it all adds up so dont count on it costing $4000 $5000.
