i got an oil leak in my c4 , its not from the linkages , not from the speedo drive , its from above the speedo drive somewhere , near the breather at the top but why would it be doin that
Check where the cooler pipes come out and return line goes back in that they are tight. Could also be the dipstick tube. There is an O ring on the end where it goes into the tranny case.

i topped it up when i changed the speedo drive , but overfilled it so i drained it but drained a bit too much as it slipped abit have not touched it today , not really given hiding no but thats where is seems to be coming from tho, is there somethin in the breather that can malfunction
GO BULLDOGS GIDDY UP
If you overfill a C4 they often push oil out the breather. This should stop once the oil level reaches the correct level. You may want to check the level again. Car running in park on level ground auto at running temperture. Probably nothing to worry about unless you over filled it a lot and its pushing out heaps of oil.
yeah the thing is thogh i drained oil yesterday after initial leak , when i was driving it was dumpin oilt out that much was leaving a trail , any how i drained some but have drained too much as it wont hold 3rd gear under load so i have not got enough oil but it still leaking
My c10 (same except for spline count) has leaky issues. I think it comes from the dipstick tube when under hard acceleration. It's quite annoying as it leaves residue on the back tailgate.
If you are leaving a trail of oil on the road it sounds like it is coming out under pressure, not just venting excess. So cooling lines as mentioned maybe. I,m guessing you run a C9 ie casefill, so you have to drop the pan to drain oil. Are you sure the pan gasket is sealing?
I cannot think of any openings in the case in the area you describe.
it left a trail yesterday until i drained it then it was fine, but last night again it was dropping onto exhaust the pan is sealing yes its har to really trace where its coming from bloody annoying too and has left a puddle under car im stuffed if i know
If your running a histall remember to put less in as it'll drop the amount required considerably.
If you drop the pan and refill it should hold 5-5.5lt in lines not inc stall convertor or radiator. I just checked over mine last week.
For some reason C4/9/10 do blow oil out the breather. Theres two reasons for it usually a) overfull b) boiling oil.
When my trans was slipping the oil used to boil all the time and blow just about all its contents onto the road. Good for low powered cars in they want to do a burnout It drove me nuts! A decent not so expensive professional rebuild fixed my issues.
Yes. It's a pain in the butt too as most dipsticks have been molestered. So its a matter of overfilling it a tad or getting close to full and just keep adding 100mls and testing.
I am glad I do my own servicing as thats the only reason I know the quantity of oil needed from a dry pan to full.
Yes, it'll more than likely slip and the fluid will boil. The fluid boils just like water does in a kettle or pot. It can virtually empty the auto of fluid if it's boiling enough. Most I dropped due to boiling the fluid was about 3lt. It was flying up though the dipstick and out of the breather. It couldn't escape fast enough. After that it wouldn't select gears correct as there wasn't enough fluid to hold a gear @ reasonable rpm.

u may have a number of problems, u may find that the pump gasket has blown out near the breather circuit which is very common u may also find that the filler tube has the wrong dipstick in it and u r overfilling, the best way to check u have the correct dipstick is to pull of the trans pan off and measure where the full mark sits in the tube u should find that the full mark on dipstick should be level with pan gasket. u need to get the oil level right before doing anything else.
BUGGER not the words i wanted to hear , is there anything else it could be , i cant actually see where its coming from thats the part thats annoying me , all the oil seems to be coming from inside where the mount is, (its c4 in an xy)
some C4s had the breather right above the extension hsg and all the oil runs down the ext hsg and all over the mount, it may be the ext gasket if u dont like that news i would degrease that area and take it for a drive then reinspect GOOD LUCK!

i cant seem to see it running down from the breather thats the thing , its just around the mount, the extension housing can be remove whil box in car cant it , only tail shaft, mount speedo drive and 4 bolts i think , and bucket load of oil
