has anyone attemted a c4 rebuild at home...

whats the diffiuclty factor, provided you have a good reference book?

You'll be able to replace clutch plates, bands & seals. But how will you check & replace worn bushes.

There are special tools to remove & replace bushes, but I suppose there is always the backyarder tools hammer & chisel.

chiltons do a good book covering all ford autos.it costs though.it is the book used by most tranny shops.jonnydepp is right about tools.there is a tool for installing the rear clutch piston into the hub to prevent damaging the seal.it can be done with out the tool using heaps of vaso and feel.do you have compressed air? it is worth air testing the assembled clutchpaks before you install them in the case.this saves you installing the box to find out you damaged a seal.cleanliness is the key.if you are going to do this at home clean your workshop real well before starting and keep your tools clean while doing it.you will need long snap ring pliers.

if the box had any problems proir to rebuild you will need to identify them when stripping down or you may achieve nothing.
