C4 Speedo Gear

Hi everyone just wondering what colour gear I would need for a C4 trans to suit a 3.00 diff ratio?

Thanks all

Hi there

Thanks for the reply mate

ill grab a 19 tooth gear asap then, this 20 odd k's out is starting to annoy me :-).

I passed a cop on the side of the HWY with a laser today and in that split second when you you see them and your heart stops, your eyes jump to the speedo and your foot moves to the brake i nearly needed a calculator to work out how much i was speeding by. Thank god it was only about 8 k's and he didn't follow me

So is there a calculation you can do to work out the gear required ??

Thanks again

Ben

Actually, worry about the colour. (sorry Greg)

A pink 19 tooth is for a manual (the teeth are cut the other direction). You need a tan 19, (or maybe an orange 20, if you run high profile tyres on the rear).

Hi there,

Wow damn i love this place, its full of information and helpful people. I learn something here everyday.

Ok fantastic, I suppose it depends what you class and high profile, at the moment I'm running and fairly standard 195/65 profile tyres but plan on getting some mags and some real rubber soonish as the 351 is nearly ready , I'm in the early stage of looking around and seeing what wheels i like. I might try and grab a Orange 20 then as i will be right for now and when i eventually get the mags ill go up an inch or 2 on the rim and down in tyre profile so it should even out. I think

Actually from what Ive heard they are available from ford and are about $15, so i might get both and have a play around.

Thanks for the info

Ben

Re: C4 Speedo Gear

Standard tyres will be fine with the tan 19. If you were running taller "strip" tyres, then the 20 would be needed.

No probs, just i've had some were tan 19T and some were grey 19T. Watching the direction is a good one too.How many gears have you seen chewed up?

Re: C4 Speedo Gear

Seriously guys.....
look inside your box, see what colour drive gear is fitted, then go into a ford parts dealer armed with the that info, AND your diff ratio, rim size and tyre profile.

They look it up on the computer (used to be the microfiche) and hand you the correct part!!!!

Albeit there are a few combinations that you also need to change the drive gear as well. Ensure you get a clip, they often break....this applies to both the drive and driven gear.

Done this too many times to count.

Cheers
Jas

How many times have you had to change the drive gear on a C4? What colour drive gears are there on a C4 other than "natural metal".....??

Also, you put a lot more faith in a parts interpretor (spelling..?) than I do.
