We have an EB ford, my husband got a littel frustrated with my map reading skills on a drive yesterday and reversed the car roughly to turn around, we then went on our way but when we needed to reverse again we cant do it, It just gives a thumping sound, like grinding, I rang around the wreckers and they said maybe its just a reverse selector thats gone. Anyone have any ideas. Is there anywhere online I can get a picture of the transmission in an EB to check when we pull this apart. We dont want to spend $1500 fixing this and in the meantime I have to drive the car. Has anyone had a similar problem or seen one,

Can you still get fifth? Does the stick move to the reverse position and no drive in reverse, or does the stick not go to the reverse position?

It goes into reverse position but doesnt mesh in, just grinds as if there are no teeth left.
Any ideas???

If fifth still works you have probably broken the reverse selector fork, or stripped the reverse idler gear. Both very easy and inexpensive to fix. Depends on how much damage the metal you may have dropped into the box is doing.
