im after information about celica/supra gearbox to 302w conversion
i am very intersted in doing this as iv been told that they are alot cheaper and stronger than the ford 5 speeds.
are there custom bell housngs availale to suit?

what is involved?

Yeah mate we had heard a few years ago thar Supra 5 speeds were a tuff bit of gear,but we sprayed one all over the road behind a 270hp 250 crossflow with Haltech fuel injection.Sounded like a friggin brick in a cement mixture when it hit second gear!!To be fair it had done a hard 100 000km or so but it wasnt on slicks ever and it was only turning an open wheeler diff.stick with the good stuff FORD!

The Toyota boxes can handle Nippon power.......horse power,
but aren't much good at torque....where it REALLY counts in this area.


There are different versions of every box, so not every box availble will suit your application


some of the t5's are capable of 350 ft/lb......i'd like to see a ricer generate that!!

hmmm, well it would be behind a slightly worked AU XR8

would the weight of the car contribute to the box breaking?
the car im planning would only way around 1250-1350kg when finished.

whats the price of a t5 compared to the celica box, i can get a late model W58 supra box for about 350-400

Well you could use a steel case supra box thats been done correctly , you will get at least a month out of it , spend more and find a decent 5 or 6 speed as you must spend $ to find one thats going to work . have you considered a late model 4 or 5 speed ? from Ford .
