Just thought i would ask what are you peoples thoughts on pulling your auto back to 1st and changing gears manually or just leaving it in drive when you race another car? Just wondering what everyones opinions are on this topic.
Me personally, i just leave it in drive. but am just wandering what others do.
Thanx,
Tom

Manual change (but usually from second, as the 1st to 2nd change is pretty sharp anyway). Changing up this way is not too bad for the gearbox, but changing down manually is not so great for it - though i do this all the time too!

I would have to be the most inexperienced automatic drover out there. Only ever learned in a manual, only ever owned manual cars. Driven autos at work and a few of my mates cars a few times. I prefer to change gear Manually! Yesa that's right, with a manual transmission.

so, best way to drag off the lights (assuming these lights are on private property) in an auto would be -
In your car, put it in second (second is good for around 120 on a private road). Put your left foot on the brake and your right on the go pedal. Get the revs to point where the car just starts to creep forward (around 1600-1800 rpm), then back off a fraction. When the lights go red (oops GREEN - thanks Falkeen), left foot off the brake and right foot hard on accelerator, at the same time, and hang on (in your case, you may want to correct the big fishtail you just started - lol). In about 6 seconds, put it in 3 or D or you will start bouncing off the rev limiter.
Do NOT do this in the wet - unless you like doing burnouts and/or donuts!
