I have searched the forums but came up empty handed

anyway....

Im thinking of getting some mags but dont want to have my speedo out
The Car is an

89 EA Falcon
5 speed
2.77:1 Diff ratio (original auto ratio)
currently sitting on Factory 15"x7" mags with 205/65/15's
i think it has a red/pink speedo gear dunno its been a while since
i converted it to manual and saw the gear

and i plan to put on 14"x7" 12 slots with either 235's or 225's and they probably be a 65 series sidewall

what colour speedo gear do ya reckon would bring the speedo within a few percent?

compare the roll-out diameter of each of the tyre sizes and if they are the same then you won't need to change speedo gears

good point
but the roll out diameter will be different
because the tires are both 65 series
eg
original= 205-65-15
new= 225-65-14

so the diameter of the new tyre will be more or less 1" difference due to the change of wheel diameter

Have you checked tyre availabilty yet? 235 and 225 are usually in a 60 series.

Also, not only is the tyre height changing, but also you are loosing an inch in rim diameter don't forget.

So, my last EA had 235/60s on 14x8, instead of the 15s, and it was nearly spot on. My current car will soon get 225/60 and 235/60 as well, and I am not in the least concerned about speedo error.

235/60 sit a lot better on 8s than 7s, unless you already have your rims.

G'day,
this is a very easy thing to overcome. Jack it up, pull out the speedo sender, and take a look in the box to get the colour.

Take ALL your specs to ya ford parts dealer and they will hand you the right gear.
Have done it countless times!
