hey all,

my clutch has weaked my firewall, and the cable is pulling straight through it (ie it is basically tearing the firewall apart)

how much to fix?!?!?!? i guess the dash would have to come out to do a proper job (ie weld plates on both sides)
i spose i could do a dodgy job on just the outside.....

anyway, any thoughts ppl, and how much do reckon it would cost?

Dash out if weld both sides.

Need to protect carpets from heat etc if welding on engine side. Mig welder a lot cooler than oxy or arc.

Can repair from engine side by cutting a plate from 4mm or thicker gal steel that is a few inches wider than hole all around and just screwing to firewall with four self tappers, as the clutch action pulls onto the firewall and no need for weld.

Get a clutch cable spigot from XE or earlier and screw into new plate, as the base on it spreads the immediate load more and it will fail before the plate. $1 from pick a part or $30 upwards new from Ford.

Hey, i just got a mate to weld a 6mm plate over the hole and drill hole for clutch cable...it seems oknow...but not sure how long it will last!
