Collect my rebuilt (again) C4 tomorrow

After getting a 1st to 2nd slip develop after the drags a few weeks ago, and then the box gradually starting to feel real loose recently I took it to get looked at last week by the guy that re-built it only 2500k's ago.

Found out today that the clutches were fried, bands were fried, servo was scoured beyond salvage and it also needed a new planetary set as well.

So this was a quality rebuild only 2500k's ago by one of WA's most respected trans specialists (there's really only 2 quality outfits over here anyway). Have run a huge trans cooler with thermo fan since it was installed and did all the do's with this box and none of the don'ts.

The box saw maybe 10 1/4 mile passes and probably 30-40 similiar full power runs on the street.

As to what I think is a C4's ability to handle a strong 351/378 stroker combo .... well....

I sympathise with you. I should have the project XB registered shortly. I wonder how long the new box with last.

Anybody want a pre and loved C4?

Re: Collect my rebuilt (again) C4 tomorrow

Picked the car up and wow much better than I remember the last box. Lightening fast shifts and seems like less load on the engine so it's stinging along.

The guy put in some blue racer clutches this time - an upgrade, and went for the truck size servo.

Fingers crossed it will last a lot longer. Went thru the whole procedure with the trans guy. His advice was avoid pulling burnouts thru the gears out of the water when staging. Apparantly get it into 3rd gear before leaving the water causes less wear on the planetary set.

Same guy built Sandro's box in his XD and now mine is exact same specs as that car.

i keept wanting to put a C4 behind my 351, (and i do have one to use, and a spare) but kept deciding against it due to stories like this,
how much is it costing you guys for these rebuilds that are supposed to be good?

On an average $1000+ per box.

Last rebuild, which was really a freshen up cost $738. Full rebuild $1200 not including convertor.

Re: Collect my rebuilt (again) C4 tomorrow

Yeah heard that too last week. The comment I got was "Yeah that's it with these wogs once they get their cars going great they flog em off"....

Thought that was a bit harsh myself!

Dunno who the lucky owner of the fastest true street car is...
