Does anybody know why my LSD works when doing dohnuts on grass, but when it comes to doing a tarmac burnout, only 1 wheel is spinning?
Also, sometimes when going around corners if you plant it going around a corner, you'll get drift action other times and then you will just get single wheels spinning crap.. whats the deal?
Could there be some broken clutches or bunged hats??.. Is there a possibility the diff wasnt aligned properly when it was installeD?
FOR SALE: 1980 XD, Recently rebuilt 9" disc diff, with 3.25 gears, toploader with hurst shifter kit, 302C, DBA slotted and cross driled rotors, Fairmont interior with modified centre console, jellybean mags, reasonably good condition, driveline will handle 400+rwhp PM FOR PICS asking $3500
Sounds like the cones are just worn out. Throw some new high quality LS oil oil in there, and find a nice big car park. Do 10 circles clockwise and 10 circles anticlockwise very slowly. Not lighting the tyres up or anything, just nice slow easy circles. This may sound crazy, but I've done it several times and it does work. Just gets the cones aligned properly and all that jazz. If this fails, your next best option is to get a diff shop to shim the cones up but you may possibly have to get some of the top of the cone machined off. Remember to price all of this up first, because it may end up cheaper to go for a second hand LSD center that is fairly tight already.
thanks for that mike, i will try that tonight/this afternoon sometime.. will let you know if it does the trick, im not sure that it will, but its worth a try. The thing is the diff was rebuilt about 6-8 months ago, for 2200...
