Diff Change

I have a XD Fairmont wich has a borg warner l.s.d and 2.77:1 gears it used to have a 302 but it wore out so i built up a mild 351 and i want to change my diff ratio to a 3.23 or 3.45 but i rang all the wreckers and thay said that there is no V8 diff with that type of ratio, but there has to be because people are alwayes talking about them. can some one please help?

Most people with higher hp engines use Ford 9" diffs. They have a vast amount of ratios to choose from.

What you have is a borg warner 8 3/4 diff. Finding gears to suit especially LSD is not an easy task. There has been various threads here on it. You can do a search for them.

BW open wheel diffs had 2.77/2.92/3.23/3.54 from memory and off the top of my head.

BW LSD has 2.77/2.92 from memory.

just go to a wrecker and get the whole assmbly from a ute or p/v, put your brakes on it and away you go. if the lsd is really important to you then you'll have to change the pinion and crown gears. late model xr's had 3:23 as well.

i know a lot of ppl actually get the lsd out of a ef/el and use the axles also, as the ef/el had 28 spline were the xd-e-f had 25 spline axles

i would say use a EF/L 3.45 LSD but i dont no how to addapt the hand brake cable to fit
