I bought myself a brand new au II xr 6 hp 2 years ago. When i picked it up it had 7 km on the clock, and the first time i drove it, the back lash in the diff was horrible. The guys at ford told me it would wear in. Bloody crap, i could hear back lash even changing from 3rd to 4th. After a whole year of complaining, ford gave me a brand new diff, that still does exactly the same thing!
They now tell me its a performance car and it's expected, that they all do it. Then they tell me i should have bought a VCT with independant rear cos they don't do it.
I was wondering if anyone else is having my problems?
Other than the hugely annoying clunk, my car is great. I've had a Jim Mock Dev 5 kit put in it. My car pulls 165kw at the wheels and literly flies!! only thing is that my tyres don't like it too much, hehe
Yeap, same here i get diff clunks and so has 3 other AUII XR6 owners around here.
Have checked up with the Ford dealers and there is not a fix as yet, but have heard of some type of friction modifier (oil additive) thats added to the diff that reduces clunks etc. Will try to investigate it further.

Gaz,
Try filling it up with castrol SAF-XA. It's a fully synthetic diff oil. I used to get diff clunks all the time and after using this stuff they have all gone.
