Heya all, I havent been round the forums much lately due to my new job. However I couldnt resist jumping on quickly to tell all.
The accelleration is so much better and the eecv ecu is much happier about change downs when rolling to a stop. so I went from an open 3.08 to lsd 3.7. I cant wait to give em a bit of a testing.
Man that's fantastic. A nice birthday present for yourself huh? It was getting to the stage that I could have pinched the diff gears and you wouldn't have know for months! I'm glad that you're happy with it. Any shift problems at all?
I havent had a real good chance to give it a run yet, so I'm not sure, I picked up my car and proceeded to the course for trend micro products. so maybe 20 mins of driving in peak traffic.
well, as i have said earlier, it was peak traffic driving into town, so no WOT. However my first impressions are, WOW this is what acceleration is supposed to be like.
COST: well the gearset was only 220, Real good nick but were old and out of a cortina so they had the smaller bolt holes. The LSD I got was unfortunately the wrong sort, it suits later models so I had to get a new LSD for 720, Install was 650 drive in drive out.
So if anyone wants a LSD for a later model falcon let us know i have a spare.
Big "clap clap clap" to performance poofta parts... Supplying the WRONG LSD centre and an older style gearset. What a damn moron. Wouldnt expect anythig less from him though.
Man that sux totally. Although im sure you will be able to sell it... hopefully you wont lose too much on it like i did with my LSD centre that didnt end up being suitable (despite being told it would be).
Definately goes to show that in the case of diffs, it pays to get the shop doing the work to supply/source the parts, rather than get them yourself from elsewhere.
Guess we both learned a lesson on this point!
On the topic of revlimiter probs... my commodore is doing the same thing after the 3.9LSD is in... i had the speed sensor wire corrected with an interceptor box and tuned on the dyno, which fixed up the light throttle shifts and the speedo reading... but at W.O.T it headbutts the limiter. Evidently the ECU has a set roadspeed it wants to shift at, and the higher diff gears mean that you will never reach that speed before the revlimiter. The only solution for my commy seems to be to have a chip programmed for the ECU that explicitly changes the shift points (my auto is controlled by the PCM/ECU). Id be interested to know what (if any) the solutions are for you falcon guys... as i dont wan tto get a remapped chip right now, but need to get WOT shifts sorted. My plan at the moment is to adjust the interceptor box again... and have the speedo reading slightly higher than it should, and the WOT shifts happening just before revlimit. But this isnt ideal for knowing you are going the correct speedlimit on the road.
Cant wait to see what the Fairmont's like with the 3.7s in it now but :D
Bring on next wednesday night and the Willowbank T&T!
Yeah for sure man clap clap to performance poofter power parts...... the guys at the diff shop agread with taht plan too, I would rather have the speedo out and shifting right at WOT than hitting the limiter
