I went to a couple of transmission places today. One reckon that the diff just needs a clean out and the fluid needs to be replaced plus additive in the fluid, they quoted $90. The other place said it has something to do with the cup and cone, they said it may need shimming etc and quoted me $400. Who do I believe?? The first place did my S5 solenoid and I haven't had a problem since, the bloke has been round here for like 20 yrs dealing in this stuff and he pretty much told me what was wrong with it before I finished talking. I only said that it make a strange noise when going round corners, then he said "let me guess, it only happens when the car is hot and it may occasionally give a few knocks and stuff". He was exactly right so maybe it is only the fluid that needs to be replaced. I added some the other day in an attemp to fix it and it took nearly the whole bottle, so i can't have had much in it.
I'm going to have to get something done about it soon as the car has to go on a 5hr trip to Sydney at the end of the week and back early the next week and I don't want to risk blowing the diff up on the way!!
