diff question

spoke to a diff place today about getting the diff in my AU converted to an LSD and putting in 3.7 diff gears. The guy said that i should put in EB series 2 onwards axles (i think that's what he said), as they are 28 spline and the AU is only 25 spline. Anyway price for the axles, LSD conversion and putting in 3.7 gears was about $1,100. Does this seem like a fair price?
Also he said it would be cheaper to find an xr6 or xr8 diff (from EB2 - EL2) and put that in the car with the 3.7 gears.
So are the EB2 - EL2 diffs (28 spline) better than the AU's (25 spline)???

If that price is for a rebuilt one it not too bad.

I thought all EB on had the 28spline?
It is ment to be able to take a bit more of a floggen, and i read somewhere its a necessary conversion if u wanna go for shorter gears (?)

1st car EA Fairmont Ghia, extractors, exhaust
2nd EF GLi, 'custom' interior, extractors, exhuast
3rd EA Fairmont 5spd, low'd, extractors, exhuast, head
work, 3.45LSD, EL dash, interior+ El ECU
4th EB2 Fairmont, EL dash and interior, BBM, LSD etc etc
5th EB Fairmont Ghia 5L. All leather, lowered, exhaust etc

Don't darken his doorway again. He is an idiot. ALL falcons from EB onwards have 28 spline axles. All you need is a LS hemisphere, gearset and the bearings.

If you're not driving a manual you're really just steering.

Well I was looking at $500 a while back to have an EA 2.77 LSD converted to 3.45 gears and new clutches.
I agree that the best bet would be to start with an LSD though - depending on the cost!
