Hey folks. My diff whines when on open roads and it is fairly loud, now ive had plenty of old cars and they seem to whine and not cause problems. would and oil change help and what oil? I have a ef2 fairmont ghia with 3.23lsd thanks

Try Castrol XAF-SA, it's good, full synthetic and about $26 a litre.

Depends on why it's whining. An older car might whine because the diff wasn't shimmed correctly, after a rebuild. This won't cause much concern. If it's the factory diff (hasn't been touched) then a whine will indicate a bearing on the way out, probably pinion bearing. As it gets worse it will wreck your crown wheel and pinion.

Well to my knowledge no diff should whine if it is in top nick, time for a new diff or get it checked out.
