Difference between 6cyl & V8 diff on XE

Hi All,

Im in the process of converting my XE 6cyl diff to a standard V8 diff.
Im unsure as to what the difference between them is? Can anyone help?
Im running a standard 351 with a C4 box, I dont push it too hard. I dont want to blow the diff just yet!
I was also advised to look at an EB borg warner, can anyone advise??

Thanks
Joe

Re: Difference between 6cyl & V8 diff on XE

i think the main differance between 6 and 8 cylinder diffs in the XE was the 6 is a two pinion center and the 8 is four pinion making it a stronger unit.

Re: Difference between 6cyl & V8 diff on XE

I've been using a 2.77 disc brake LSD diff out of a 6 cylinder XE Fairmont without any problems. Running a 351 with C4 and tall 255/60/15 tyres. After 2 years, the rubbers in the training arms are all badly work though. Ever seen an XE sedan with 4 wheel steering? Takes corners VERY well.

I'm surprised the diff has lasted this long. I've busted a C4 and had to remove the 3000 hi-stall due to metal in the fluid, so I've gone back to the big donut, but this puts more stress on the neck-snapping shifts. I need to change the diff ratio to something like 3.5 and get the hi-stall cut and cleaned and put back in. That will wake her up. Can't wait. Gotta finish building this damn shed first though.
