Hi Guys,

Not sure if I had driveline noise or something else.
At the FF Heathcote day my first run was fine, no noise at all and ran a 14.2

On my second run, towards the end of the run there was a high pitched sound.
Then on each run after that, as soon as I got close to 160km I heard this load high
pitched sound and my times dropped to mid to high 14.

There was no vibrations or rattles or anything else, just this bloody anoying
sound. it almost sounds like a warning beep or something, similar to the speed alert,
but instead of the pitch changing it didn't.

The car drives fine and doesn't seem to be having any problems.

Just wandering if anyone has any ideas as to what this sound is.

I have it on tape as on one of my runs I had a friend in the car taping and you
can see the rpm, speedo and you can hear the sound.

BTW:
its in third gear, close to 5000rpm and around 160km when I hear the sound.
I took it upto 200km and the sound was there the whole time.

Could it just be the speedo cable slipping or something ?

The best way to describe the sound is that it sounds like a slipping fan belt.
You know sometimes in the early morning on some of the older cars, once you start
them you get that screetching sound, its very similar to that.

Mate, i know the sound your talking about. Yes it only happens at high speeds whilst accelerating hard but i think it's nothing to worry about.

Seems it's the gearbox buzzing. Funny thing is since i've changed the gearbox oil the noise has gone, not sure if it's because of the oil change thats gone or the certain road conditions that triggers the high pitch buzzing noise.

Dont know if the AU's are in the same boat, but the BA XR6 I've done many kays in has a wind noise at the higher speeds. It does sound like a warning beep or tone, but its just something in the front window.

Its an Auto, and the sound only stops when I get below around 150km / 160km

Its not the speedo because its not a cable Sounds like a wind thing IMO

Actually come to think of it, it did when i changed to 5th gear then after the clutch uptake it came back on again. So far it hasn't done that noise after the oil change.

Just managed to save a bit of the video onto my pc.

This is taken from in the car during one of the runs, the video is crappy
but you can hear the noise. it sounds like it is still in third gear even though
I have hit the 200km mark.

The video grab is about 16.5mb sory for the large size, not sure how to get it smaller.
