hey hey,

i bought a ea 5 spd just recently as a run around whilst i re-do the build on my other ea.

i already a 3.7 drtroit locker in the arse of my mega hp ea.

i got thinking..... why dont i just put it in the arse of this driver falc till the big hp ea is ready to go?

so i called rollin who came down and gave a hand installing it into the ea (thanks mate )

anyways... 8.30 @ nite its all done.

i took the car out onto the road... and for the next 30 mins it went something like this..

1st brrrraaaaaaaaaap(massive fit of wheelspin) 2nd chiiiiiirrrrrpp brrraaaaaaaap 3rd chirp braaaaaaaaaap. heel toe back to 2nd brap,,, waaaaaaaaa. turn corner brrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaapppppppppppppppp one turn of oppisite lock ensured i stayed on the black stuff. 3rd braaaaappppp 4th braaaaap.

break heel toe back to 2nd brap,,, waaaaaaaaa. turn at 10 k's an hour... chirp chirp chirp from rear inside tyre,,,, so i lift of and no chirping from me anymore

the acceleration difference from 2.92 to 3.7 is awesome and the locker is just waaaay to fun,

best mod i have done so far deffinatly recomend this to every one.

hehe sounds fun joe. Could you explain to us what a detroit locker is? most of us (includimg me) know what a single spinner is and an LSD but thats as far as it goes.
Whats the pro's and cons of each?

a detroit locker is a mechanical limited slip in its most simple terms..

even at 2 percent throttle (basicly engine power) being delivered the locker will lock up and act like a full spool diff. where as a lsd will have the traction forces of the tyres working against the lsd and thus keeps it open and you dont get the chirp chirp chirp round corners.

a detriot locker once enguaged by the force of the engine will not slip... a limo will.

the detriot will open up and will act like a open wheeler diff on corners. a full spool diff will no "open wheel" nor will a mini-spool.

you wont break a detriot anytime soon (mines rated to 900rwhp) but a limo will wear fast when adjust tightly and will break at the 350-400rwhp mark

Just a quick question, how much would a 3.7 detroit locker set you back including fitting? Secondly, how much more would a 3.7 lsd cost than a 3.45 lsd? I'm pretty sure that I have a 3.08 in my EA and down the line, replacing the diff is something I plan to do, but I'm just not sure how high a ratio I should get. First things first though, pay off a few bills, fix the suspension, then convert to manual...

a 3.7 with a tru trac (detriot locker) in ur diff is 1200 installed,

but ur best starting of with a ed diff in a ea-eb car the ed has 28 spline axles (same as 9 inch) if you own a ed or newer car then just use ur diff.

a limo with 3.7 i was quoted 900 installed, so the choice was easy for me.

if you run a auto i sugest 3.9 gears, this will give you take off very comparable to a manual,

3.7 is all you need in a 5 spd manual, 3.9's are too short in my opinion.

rollin was busy this weekend wasn't he. did he get his stuff done? hope that he didn't need anymore parts than what he had.
