EA 5speed

I have a EAfalcon with a 5 speed manuel geerbox and its noisy, the mechanic I goto says its proberly the cluster bearing gone, but he wont be shore until he pulls it apart. But then he rings up and tells me that it might be to hard to find parts for a 5speed manuel, might need to put in a new geerbox which will cost about $1200. Can any one tell me if it is possible to find parts for the geerbox or should I take it to a tranny specialist. You must be able to get parts some where, anyone know where I should take it? I live in Doncaster Melbourne, most of the tranny places only do autos. Does this sound right and is the price ok? First he told me $600 before he checked it out.

Re: EA 5speed

The input shafts for these boxes are very hard to get new, and are $900. Other bits should not be a problem.
