gday,

im just wondering wat the final drive ratio is in a stock EA falcon S MPFI?
cant seem to find the info anywhere else,
and why is it that VL commodores get a 3.9 final drive ratio? why ddint falcons get anything like that? is that because of gearing ratios and different power or wat?

series 1 auto mpfi and cfi got 2.77, manual cfi or mpfi got 2.92
series 2 auto cfi got 3.08, mpfi got 3.23 and manuals cfi or mpfi got 2.92

LSD was optional but standard on Ghia.

because the manuals have a shorter first gear than the auto's

In practice they seem to vary wildly. 3.23 is rare, most of the serII mpfi manuals I see have 3.08 or 2.92.
I've seen cfi manuals with 2.77, 2.92. and 3.08.
Our serI auto CFI got a 3.08 diff.

I think it was all optioning really, most of these cars they never changed the oil let alone the diff

You will have to crawl under it and look.

1st 3.50
2nd 2.14
3rd 1.39
4th 1.00
5th 0.78
Reverse 3.39

4 speed Auto gear ratios
1st 2.39
2nd 1.45
3rd 1.00
4th 0.69
Reverse 2.09

i was just going by the ford brocshure and spec sheets for the EA

ive seen a fair few 3.23 diffs in wreckers but mostly under Ghias have also seen EB Fairmonts with 3.08 but never seen a series 1 EA with anything but a 2.77 or 2.92.
