im about to under take a manual conversion on my EB XR6, i got quoted $1650 for the job from mandurah auto wreckers, is this a decent price... and also being an XR6 does it need the specific xr6 manual ECU? he said he wasnt familiar with that part of it, so i have to take it in tomorrow for him to go over it.
is it a decent price? and whats with the ECU part of it, does it need a specific type?
any help much, appreciated.

A mate done an auto to manual conversion on his EBII XR6 without major problems... The ECU should work fine. You can use an auto ECU in place of a manual one but not the other way.. It's a very straight forward conversion. When he done it the car would not idle down below 1500rpm. He needed to change a small portion of wiring to allow the ECU to understand there was no auto no more. Anyways. If your interested i could probably find out more.

the conversions under way now, its costing me $1800, it includes EB 2 xr6 box, Manual ECU, Manual Engine ECU (aparently its different) and there fixing my rear main seal leak, also all the other stuff like pedal box and cables.
think its a good price?

Assuming you've got an EB II you're getting ripped here.
Series 2 only has the one ECU, EA and series one EB had a trans computer and the ECU. There's no difference between XR6 and Falcon gearboxes.
I'm guessing the original $1650 is closer to the mark, including labour. I'm currently doing mine, so far it's cost me about $250 in parts (box needs a new 2nd gear set though, again I'll be doing that myself). But I've spent about 4 hours on the pedal box, at 70 bucks an hour there's $280 and I haven't even touched the transmission yet.
ye i dont know exactly what he was saying but aparently in the xr6 model theres quite a few things that have to be changed, there different to the Gli's, hes a very trustworthy mechanic and has had a good name so i think he right. i dont care anywayz i just want it manual i mean i cant even beat a stock VP atm.... lol
whats you ride ally_holden?

The two I6 boxes have completely different internals, the XR6 is closer ratio and stronger. The V8 boxes are different internals again, closer still ratios, stronger still, with a longer input shaft and front retainer.
