Eeew, Holden

I haven't turned but brother in law is chasing an M21 and silly me said I'd find him one, but not knowing anything about holden bits I don't know what I'm looking at. Can anyone tell me how to spot the difference between an M21 and the weaker and cheaper M20?

Re: Eeew, Holden

M21 has a 2.54 ratio first gear. M20 has a 3.05 ratio first gear. Do a ratio check will tell. They also have ID grooves on the input shaft, M21 should have two grooves, but this is not a given.

Re: Eeew, Holden

ALso the M21 (v8 box) has a longer input shaft and so will not fit a 6.

Re: Eeew, Holden

M20, M21, M22 are available in both V8 and six cylinder input shaft lengths.

Re: Eeew, Holden

They are. M21 six cylinder is very rare, was only used in the LJ XU1. M22 six cylinder is very common, was used in one tonner.

Re: Eeew, Holden

Must have been rare, AFAIK there only was a v8 box.
Oh well, if I wanted a decent v8 box for my panno I wouldn't get the original 4-speed anyway :)

Re: Eeew, Holden

Please don't say the words "Decent" and "aussie four speed" in the same sentence. It is offensive!
