Hey guys I have some concerns with the tranny in my 96 EF Futura.
it shifts perfectly when either warm or cold power or econ however
97% of the time when pulling up to a set of lights it will shift into first gear before coming to a complete stop, which will make the car lurch forward to a degree. Also, if i turn a corner slowly and then accelerate it will kinda do the same thing, feels like it is unsure of which gear to be in and will flare for maybe 2 seconds. All other shifting is perfect. I have done some research and it points to either a clogged filter ( tranny has been serviced twice in the last 4 months no problem found mechanically ) also i have been told it MAY be a problem with the torque converter control solenoid or a speed sensor of some sort.

Also it sorta has the torque lock-up shudder at higher speeds, its very very slight - has 110,000k's on the clock

Has anyone had this sort of problem or can shed some light on the subject. I have not checked for codes as I do not have the right equipment and dont really know how either. How much would ford charge to check for codes?

i know what you mean, just before you come to a stop, or just when you do so, theres a slight push. From what i remember my EL falcon has been doing it since i remember?

Also have you calibrated your TPS? This made my auto shift so much smoother as well!

nah I havent, how do I go about htis? is it as simply as lossening the screws and moving it around until the correct signal is found? what is the range?

it sounds like tps or possible speedo transducer, more often than not a lockup clutch solenoid will stall engine on pull up, go a get a dtc (diagnostic trouble code) read out & that will give some idea shouldnt cost more than $40 if not free. David (automatics of marion sa)

damn i think it is leave car in drive apply brake for 1 minute, then turn off engine but ignition on, and put accelerator right to the floor for at least another minute.

I'll give ford a call and see what they can do for me

Oh and when i pull up at the lights and the car lurches, it doesnt stall but the rpm's drop enough to make it shudder but it quickly corrects itself ( least i know the ISC works )

in SlacksCreek you can try Anton's Workshop he has a diag computer for e series ford and don't think he is $$
