Re: EF XR6 5 speed

T5 can go from $200 in the trading post for one from a EA to $2500 for a new BA XR6T box, they have been in all manual falcons since the EA, though i believe BA XR8 is different.

depending on where you read the XR boxes are either the same as normal or tougher than normal, depends on who you believe.

i have a EB XR6 and havent been able to break mine, before that i had a normal EB and didnt manage to break the box in that.

actually i have never heard a personal experience of anyone actually breaking a T5...

Re: EF XR6 5 speed

The boxes in the latest Xr8's and GT's are a Tremec box and are very expensive but the old T5 is a beaut, and is even holding in the XR6 Turbos

Re: EF XR6 5 speed

Aaprt from not being the nicest gearbox out there I havn't had a problem. I have crunched gears acoupe of times when angry, almost always its second to third.

I have an el Xr6 manual, and the box is quite stiff to change ,though inspires confidence over most other gearboxs I have used, with a very light throw,I will in the near future go for the AU shifter which is apparently a lot shorter,or if you want shorter again SVO make a short throw as well.
As for longitivity (<--- nice word) the rear main bush has a tendancy to go after a period of time($140 to be replaced),as do bearings and synchros like all gearboxes after years of abuse.
But have known of some to do very high Ks with minimal problems.
When your mate gets it,check oil levels/condition and dont flat change too often!!!!!

T5 Box

T5 did come in XF falcon too.

My EA has a T5, car has prolly done around 350,000km, engine is an EB-D 4 Litre Conversion and the gearbox is smooth as, no crunching, no grinding.
